Mahabharata - Chapter - The Story of Shantanu and Ganga - Told by Sriram Raghavan
The book introduces the characters to those not familiar with the Mahabharata. Well written for a speedy reading. Reasonably lyrical. Pass marks on visualisation. Perhaps the characterisation of the central characters could have been flushed out better than these"cardboard cameos" that they have become. Author's knowledge is commendable. I personally like to read about Bhishma the least talked about character in Mahabharat and the greatest man ever. Author's book - Bhishma and Ambassador I hope I have got the title correctly gives a glimpse of the character.
I hope Ashok writes a novel with more insights into Bhishma's life - something that many would like to read. Format: Paperback. Three novellas from a 5 part series of Ashok Bankers are soft and romantic in the narrative and pick up episodes from the early history of Mahabharat. I found the description of Ganga's life and battle of Bhishma with Shalva particularly fascinating. This is an excellent attempt by Ashok Banker to hook the modern young reader onto the greatest story ever told.
Keeping romance at the core, with beautiful graphics at the cover and an easy narrative, contained in 75 pages is just right for the young readers. One person found this helpful. The book is really thin, looks like a booklet.
